First of all, I simply must come clean. I think this is something like "falling on your own keyboard":
After running my mouth last week, I didn't go to the TailCat.And to make matters worse, I got pulled into a book club discussion - in the warm, dry comfort of a nice little Italian restaurant near the field. I am weak. It won't happen again.
OK -back to the game: that was my first experience with the St Francis "Field of Dreams". Isn't it amazing the difference between high school football in Ohio and New York? And why does it always rain every time we play in Buffalo?
On the subject of cold and wet - I'm pretty sure the seniors haven't played on grass since freshman year. And we haven't played in weather like that since, well, Strongsville. Overheard in the fourth quarter: "Oh my God - here it comes again!" "Yes, but this rain feels warmer". It's a bad, bad sign when you're comparing downpours at a football game.
As for St. Francis:- it's very hard to take a team seriously that has to resort to a taped cheer of "Dee - fense - (clap) - (clap)". Playing music - any music - between plays is wrong - this is not the NBA. Playing KC and Sunshine Band was bad enough - Tony Garofoli busted out his 70's mixer dance moves when KC came on - but Neil Diamond?!?! Neil Diamond?!?!?! At a football game!?!?!
Announced attendance: 283. I'm thinking 233 were from Ohio. I'm also thinking that if the attendance is 283, I'm not announcing it to anyone.
Despite all these distractions, our Cats and the fans pulled this one out. Slogged through the rain, slogged onto the buses and headed home. Speaking of buses, I have NO updates regarding events on the bus. We can have a "Screw Your Busmate" contest - kind of like "Screw Your Roommate" dances in college - if you'd like. Pass along something newsworthy from the bus trip (anonymous or otherwise) and I'll try to embarrass the heck out of your target. And, perhaps, you!
The "up and down" portion of our schedule is over. There are no more "breathers" - only teams looking to secure a playoff spot. The kids are looking good and in great shape at 5 - 0. Next up is the Massillon Tigers. They will bring a large, vocal crowd. We have to bring our "A game" from here on out fans - and it starts with this humbled TailCat Coordinator.
Details for this week coming soon - stay tuned!!!
